Another look back at our New York State travels. This photo is poorly composed and the lighting was all wrong but the memory is excellent. We had a terrific day exploring the area around the lake. They have a dinner boat cruise also. If you're interested in the dinner cruise go to the link I posted yesterday. It's was a buffet style dinner and a full bar when we took it back when.

I've blogged recently that I'm taking an online photography class. In the process of one of the early assignments, looking at previous photographs to analyze composition and such, I discovered this one.

This is one of a few photos I took while we were in the Fingerlakes of New York State. This wonderful
patio is overlooking Keuka Lake and I sure would like to be there right now. This is the time of year
for a number of winery events. Check out this web link if you are planning to visit the area. I want to return so I can do a much better job of capturing the beauty of the place.

The leaves have not begun to turn but the landscape is quite beautiful nonetheless. We've passed through Wilton, NY, a short distance from Saratoga Springs and Lake George. We drove North through the Adirondack Mountains past Lake George, Lake Placid and upper Lake Champlain Grande Isle where we'll spend a few days. Here are some of the photos taken from the motorcoach as we drove.

Wow! Who knew that Rochester is full of food related places to see. We started with the 100 year old Rochester Public Market where you can buy beautiful produce, plants, freshly roasted coffee and even wearables. It's not on the scale of Pike's Market but it was a unique find in a Northeastern city. We were told that the Wegman's Market Cafe was not to be missed so we cooled off for an hour while waiting for the next scheduled tour. We were really looking forward to the Edward Weston exhibit at the George Eastman House and Gardens and it certainly exceeded our expectations. The photos were amazing. This was mostly black and white work done throughout his career. There was also a small collection of color photos taken at the request of Kodak depicting many of the California locations where Weston had done black and white work. We had some photo opportunities of our own while touring Geroge Eastman's House and Gardens. Eastman was a self taught man with many interests (as photos depict) and if you're traveling in this area it is well worth a visit. Our last must do for the day was to enjoy a fantastic Greek dinner at the Olive Tree Restaurant. Wonderful food, friendly owners and staff....in business for 26 years! Hammondsport is a lakeside village on Keuka Lake (Crooked Lake) in the lower Finger Lakes region of New York State. We spent some time investigating this lake area and enjoyed a very nice seafood dinner at one of the lakeside restaurants with J.P.
We left the park in Bath and headed for Rochester, NY where Jack will fly west to visit with his dad and crash a wedding. I think he was invited but in any case he'll be there when Marty (his longtime friend and bandleader) and Jody become husband and wife. John, another longtime friend plans to travel the many miles to visit with Jack while he is in the old neighborhood. (John was the architect on our fabulous greenhouse.) I'm really envious about the Kyoto dinners I'll miss but the dogs need me.
Rochester is an interesting city, home to Eastman Kodak, a "river runs through it" -REALLY! and there are at least three parks designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. Rochester also is one of the few cities that have a waterfall within the city limits. We hope to see the falls, the marketplace (100 years old) and visit the Edward Weston photography exhibit at the George Eastman House.
Today we drove around Lake Michigan and checked out the Erie Canal. Humidity is not our friend but we do our best and sneak into air conditioning whenever possible. We also went to the ferry terminal to find out if the CAT ferry to Toronto would be a good way for us to enter Canada in a few weeks. Folks, it seems like the perfect time to go public with a journal from the road. Yes, we've already been cruising in our Dutch Star for more than six months and have clocked more than 4000 miles. Whew! No complaints, no concerns, no regrets. With the exception of a brief medical delay in New Mexico we've had a great time.
This is less than exciting stuff but it is practical info for anyone who is going to follow our roadblog; you can view photos we have uploaded by clicking on the small thumbnails along the columns. (you may be asked to register to access our "group" lists when we link our BIG album but "Flickr" doesn't send spam and it doesn't cost you anything.) We will also have some photos inserted with text that you may click on to enlarge. Let us know if there are any problems with our roadblog or albums from your end. We are currently parked at a private park near the Finger Lakes of New York. This is a bit of a resting period to visit with family and get organized for a trip into Canada. While we've been here we've taken a dinner cruise on Keuka Lake, checked out N.Y. State wineries, attended an annual Bark Peelers Convention, visited Corning Glass Museum and the Rockwell Museum of Western Art and learned a bit about the charming villages surrounding the lakes.
