It's surprising how time can slip away when we are really just hanging out here for a month. We took a day trip ride over to a local quilt show and spent a pleasant day poking around on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake. Another day was spent visiting a free exhibit at the National Geographic Museum in DC. Here are some photos I took. I need more practice with my new Nikon 5100 but these are just snapshots so here we go:
The Bayside Quilters show venue was a small, recently refurbished church. The church is no longer the home of any religious practice but is being used for weddings, quilt shows, art events, etc. It was a charming way to show the guild members projects.
There were quilts for sale laid out on the lawn and hanging on clothesline strung across the front of the lot. Fortunately the forecast rain never happened. The town of Oxford is work a visit on it's own. The houses vary in size and style but overall I would describe this small town on the Eastern Shore of MD as charming.

After the show we took a trip from Oxford to St Michaels on a 9 car ferry. It's a ten minute trip and cost us $11. We were told to have lunch at Crab Claw and so we did.
The following day we went to the National Geographic Museum in DC to see some of the unpublished photographs of 2010. It wasn't a great set up to take photos of the photos....if you're interested I suggest you go. This small venue is worth a visit if you plan on doing other things in DC.

After the National Geographic we headed to a place I found on my iPhone....I searched pubs and this one popped up. It's near Lafayette Plaza and the White House. The pub is in the lower level of the Hay Adams house/hotel. We chose the "off the record" hamburger which was the best we've had in recent memory and it only cost slightly less than $20...per order. This isn't bad for food in the Capitol.

(the room is intimate with a small bar and many pen and ink drawings of famous people on the barn red walls)
