It rained all day yesterday so it wasn't a good day to tour and take photos. I drove around Ocean Shores and found a WiFi signal to update my iPad. Then I took a very short drive toward the point where I saw many, many properties for sale. It looks like a period of construction was hit hard by the rapid decline in home sales. I think a lot of folks who expected to have weekend places on the Washington coast were hit very hard. It appears that the small businesses in this town are hanging on as best they can but it isn't a good situation.
Today we drove south on highway 101 around Grays Harbor from the Elks Lodge in Ocean Shores, WA. We checked out the town of Westport where there is a very active fishing marina. We had lunch at Half Moon Bay Seafood Restaurant. It was not a place I'd recommend though the town has a ready supply of local salmon and halibut.
On the way into Westport we stopped at the Westport Winery. Jack tasted a few wines and purchased one bottle of a varietal that has won local awards. I don't imbibe anymore so I just poked around the gift shop. I felt bad that I didn't purchase anything but frankly...I didn't really need any more souvenirs.
I have a few photos to post as soon as I get to a better internet source.
Tomorrow we head south on 101 into Oregon. With the Labor Day weekend looming I'm hoping we can snag a first come, first serve site at a state park near the ocean. If not, we'll move on to the next best option.
Happy Trails!
